Outdoor boudoir 2022: already nearly booked for *next* year!

It’s wild, but in the last few weeks, I’ve already had a few clients booking outdoor boudoir sessions for the summer of 2022!

I only offer a handful of outdoor session each year (my summers get full early, especially since I also photograph weddings!) and now that a few clients have already requested outdoor boudoir sessions for 2022, I only have three spots left!

So even though next summer feels so far away, I’m officially opening up my calendar for these last outdoor session openings.

My last three openings for outdoor boudoir next year:

  • Late May

  • mid-June

  • early or mid-September

Want some inspiration?

Here are two ideas for dream sessions that I’d absolutely LOVE to photograph in 2022...

#1) summer afternoon on the north shore

Tettegouche state park • Silver Bay, MN

the setting:

Tettegouche State Park is along the North Shore. It’s got this incredible lush, green forest and waterfalls scattered throughout.

This would be incredible for an afternoon session that ends at sunset. The colors in the sky would be fantastic, and it’d be a great setting for some adventure vibes!

Style + Outfit Ideas:

I’m picturing really grounded, calm, peaceful vibes for this boudoir session.

For wardrobe, I think jeans with a cool sports bra would pair well, as would a flowy t-shirt with high-waisted underwear. A sheet or a favorite blanket would be perfect for implied nudes!

#2) tropical beach vibes… in the midwest!

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore• Munising Township, MI

Pictured Rocks is in the midwest but has such a tropical, Caribbean vibe to it -- just look at that turquoise water and those incredible rock formations! I just had a friend who visited here and came back with the most amazing pictures. I felt completely inspired and am in love with the idea of doing a boudoir session here. If you love hiking and camping, this could be the most incredible spot for you.

The Setting

Doing a session here would require a bit of travel, but what a cool way to take a vacation to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and do a destination outdoor boudoir session together!

Sunset would be the perfect time of day to do a session here, and apparently fall is just stunning here, so I think an early fall sunset session would be amazing.

Style + Outfit Ideas

I think there’s so much power in this space, but it has a really laid back, relaxed, beachy aesthetic, too.

For outfit ideas, swimsuits would look right at home here. I also think a striking, simple outfit (like a black bodysuit or a flowy, sheer tunic or robe) would look fantastic in front of the rock formations.

More location ideas…

Some of my favorite locations for outdoor sessions (I’d love to go back to any of these!)

Outdoor Boudoir Photography Palisade Head MN-03.jpg

Palisade Head (North Shore, MN)

Palisade Head is composed of these stunning rock formations that drop down to Lake Superior below. It feels completely epic and special.

I recently did a couple of sunrise sessions at Palisade Head. It’s a magical time of day to be there -- watching dawn break over Lake Superior is breathtaking!

Longfellow Beach

Longfellow Beach is right in South Minneapolis, so it’s really close to the cities! It’s along the Mississippi River and has beautiful sandy beaches alongside these woods. It has a secluded, tucked-away feeling to it.

I took these pictures of Helen right at sunrise (which I would TOTALLY do again)! The sun was reflecting on the water, and it felt like such a private little spot of nature right in the Cities.

Lake Harriet

A popular spot in south Minneapolis, Lake Harriet gets beautiful sunrises and sunsets! It has a couple really lovely beaches, as well as some beautiful walking paths lined with willow trees and lush greenery.

This spot has a bit more foot traffic, so it’s a great fit for someone who is hoping to stay in more “everyday” wardrobe for their session (swimsuits, flowy tunics, jeans and sports bras, etc - all of those work beautifully for outdoor boudoir, too!)

Brainard Lake (Ward, CO)

Brainard Lake is a mountain lake that’s surrounded by pine forest with mountains in the background. It’s close to Boulder, CO, so if you’re looking for an excuse to take an incredible trip this would be a stunning destination! I traveled out there for this session with Maddie a year or two ago, and I’ve been dying to go back - the late afternoon light in the mountains is absolutely gorgeous!

Wild River State Park

A short drive from the twin cities, Wild River has an incredible grove of pine trees and a big, open field with tall, soft grasses. It feels super serene. I think autumn would be a beautiful time of the year to do an outdoor session here. It would feel super cozy with the autumn leaves changing colors in the background.

Amanda chose to do a personal branding session at Wild River State Park. I love the way the trees framed her as she practiced yoga.

Superior Point (Superior, WI)

Near Duluth (juust over the border on the WI wide), Superior Point has a beautiful beach, a little bit of a field, and some pine trees -- it actually has a real Northern Minnesota sort of vibe to it (even though it’s in Wisconsin, haha).

If you love water, this would be an amazing spot to do a session in the late afternoon/around sunset!

AmandaJean did an incredible session at Superior Point that I still think about! Her portraits hold so much deep meaning.
