Tulip boudoir portraits in Minneapolis

M had been wanting to do a boudoir session for years, waiting for the right moment - which is a sentiment I hear from a lot of clients wondering when is the right time to do boudoir. After celebrating a milestone birthday and anniversary, emerging from a hard season of life, and entering a new, empowering chapter, M felt really proud of the life she was cultivating and knew it was the right time to give herself the gift of boudoir.

M wanted her boudoir portraits to feel natural, effortless, delicate, and feminine. She was drawn to my minimalist style of photography, featuring less furniture, clean lines, and simpler backgrounds, and she also wanted to include artful, figure detail portraits. M felt especially excited to incorporate tulips into her boudoir session, as they are one of her favorite flowers and hold special meaning in her life. I found an incredible array of tulips for her boudoir session in shades of pink, crimson, and variegated with soft white tips.

M’s boudoir wardrobe matched her vision so well. On the day of the photoshoot, after arriving at my boudoir studio in Minneapolis, M started the session wearing a silk pink pajama set. She layered this set with a favorite, textured cardigan in some images giving this look a cozy and romantic feel. She also wore a black body suit with lace in the front and sheer panels in the back. For her third look, she wore a burgundy bra and underwear set with a geometric pattern, which felt super modern and unique. For her final look, M opted for a series of implied and fine art nude portraits. In some portraits, she was wrapped up in a sheet holding herself gently and in others she stretched out onto the floor, taking up space and exuding powerful, self-loving energy.

Consent is super important to me in photography (and in life!), and each client I work with gets to decide which of their portraits, if any, they feel comfortable sharing. I only have permission to share M’s anonymous portraits here, yet even without seeing her face, I am struck by how much personality shines through in her images.
