AJ's confident and playful outdoor boudoir portraits at a Minnesota state park

AJ told me that she wanted her pictures to capture her “stepping into my confidence and hotness” which is a delightful intention to bring into a session! They wanted pictures that would feel, in their words, '“grown, gorgeous, vibrant, full of life” and overall capturing the depths of her personality - silliness alongside sensuality, a sense of calm alongside joy.

Portraits walking through the woods

AJ and I went to a state park along the St. Croix river in Minnesota, and we started the session in a forest. I love how lush the trees and mosses felt here - so atmospheric and immersive. These pictures capture a really beautiful mix of moments that feel effortless and casual, alongside moments that feel really dramatic and confident - a great mix that captures different sides of AJ’s personality.

We took these while AJ looked out over the water, meditated and stretched. To me, these feel like a big exhale - stretching and taking up space and deeply at peace. This state park is a place that’s really meaningful to AJ, so it felt really meaningful for them to have photos that really captured the setting and a strong sense of place.

We ended the session with some simple portraits in a really beautiful clearing in the trees - the fall leaves on the ground gave a really cozy warmth to these portraits, and there’s a self-loving energy to these that’s really beautiful.
