My four boudoir photoshoot experiences

“I love the idea of doing boudoir, but how do I know which kind of session is right for me?”

As a Minneapolis boudoir photographer, I offer four types of boudoir photoshoots: outdoor boudoir, flower boudoir, minimalist short sessions, and my signature studio boudoir experience. If you’re feeling stuck wondering which photoshoot experience is the best fit for you, you’re in the right place!

All of these sessions are rooted in my self-celebratory, body-positive approach to boudoir, but I find each kind of photoshoot facilitates a distinct experience and intention.

#1. My signature studio boudoir experience

Intentional, affirming, impeccable - this is my signature experience for a reason. Studio boudoir sessions are the heart and soul of my work, and my most popular kind of boudoir photoshoot experience. If you’re looking for deeply intentional and artful portraits, or if you are in a season of life where your heart flutters a bit to imagine a day dedicated to celebrating and caring for you, then my signature boudoir experience is the perfect fit.

This is my private studio, which I’ve custom-built for these sessions so every detail is taken care of — if you’re someone who is feeling nervous about being photographed, a studio session can feel incredibly grounding, safe, and intentional.

Whether you’re celebrating an important milestone, wanting to document your relationship with your body in this life chapter, or excited to treat yourself with a self-loving gift, my studio boudoir session is something I believe everyone should experience at least once.

What is a signature boudoir session like?

We’ll have a planning phone call ahead of time to talk about ideas for your session and how you want your portraits to look/feel! On your session day, we’ll meet at my studio in the morning and begin the day by touching base, reviewing your ideas, looking through the outfits you’ve brought along, and making a game plan for the session. Some clients like to add on professional hair and/or makeup styling, and if you opt for that I have amazing stylists who can meet you here at the studio (although many folks go the DIY route for a more everyday look). We’ll begin the photoshoot and spend about two hours taking pictures, with time for 3-5 looks/outfits. We’ll wrap up midday, and I always encourage my clients to plan something fun to do after your photoshoot to continue the self-celebration!

A week or two later, you’ll return to my studio for your portrait reveal, where you’ll see all your final, edited images (there will be about 60 final images to choose from) and plan out your order.

#2. Outdoor boudoir

If you are someone who loves nature, if you feel a strong connection with a certain landscape, or if you are drawn to boudoir portraits that feel effortless, natural, and maybe a little adventurous, then outdoor boudoir could be a great fit for you! From peaceful lakeside beaches to dramatic Colorado mountainscapes to gorgeous midwestern prairies drenched with a golden hour glow, I’ve photographed outdoor boudoir in so many incredible places. And believe me when I say, there is nothing quite like the magic of outdoor boudoir.

Outdoor boudoir sessions are weather and location dependent, so they tend to require a little more flexibility than studio sessions. But this flexibility also means we will find magic: we may notice stunning, unexpected spots as we’re walking to a photoshoot location. We may catch the most incredible light streaming through the trees at sunrise. And we’ll create art that forever connects you with a meaningful location or season. Outdoor sessions can encapsulate so many moods: romantic, powerful, laid-back, effortless, adventurous, calm. If a little go-with-the-flow energy comes naturally to you, then outdoor boudoir is calling your name.

What is an outdoor boudoir session like?

We’ll have a planning phone call ahead of time to talk about ideas for your session, choose a location, and talk about some of the logistics of an outdoor session! We’ll pick a session date and a chunk of the day that we’ll aim for — and then a day or two beforehand, I’ll suggest an exact start time based on the weather/light/etc. On your photoshoot day, we’ll meet up as planned!! We’ll spend about two hours taking pictures, although sometimes we’re walking/hiking a bit between locations so I like to plan for plenty of time so we don’t feel rushed. We have time for 3-5 looks/outfits (although interestingly, with outdoor sessions I find many clients keep it more simple and don’t have many wardrobe changes).

A week or two later, you’ll return to my studio for your portrait reveal, where you’ll see all your final, edited images (there will be about 60 final images to choose from) and plan out your order.

#3. Minimalist short sessions

Perhaps you are someone who is curious about boudoir and wanting to dip your toes into the experience. Perhaps you want a boudoir photoshoot that hones in on one distinct look or concept. Or perhaps life holds a lot of fullness right now, and my signature boudoir experience feels out of your budget. My minimalist session experience might be the perfect fit for you! With a shorter photoshoot experience and set at a lower price point, my minimalist sessions offer clients a simplified boudoir experience but with the same hear that my studio is known for.

What is a minimalist boudoir session like?

We’ll meet at my boudoir studio for an incredible 40-minute photoshoot, and you’ll have time for 1-2 outfits/looks. You’ll have about 30 final images to choose from! A couple weeks later, you’ll return to my studio for your portrait reveal, where you’ll see all your final, edited images plan out your order.

#4. Flower boudoir sessions

My goodness what an incredible pop of color, meaning, and vibrancy flowers can add to a session! Flower boudoir sessions are a great fit for folks who love color, feel a strong connection with nature and seasonality (but prefer the predictability of an indoor photoshoot), or who want portraits that feel fun, artistic, and full of life. I’ve also had folks choose to do flower boudoir because they have a meaningful tie to a particular flower (think: the flowers that were in your wedding bouquet, or blooms in your favorite color) or because they loved how a particular flower captured the essence of an important life chapter (ex: sunflowers that remind you of your resilience and strength).

For flower boudoir sessions, I will do all the work of sourcing and preparing the flowers, so you can just show up on the day of your session and enjoy a flower paradise! I prioritize sourcing flowers that are in-season and locally grown when possible.

What is a flower boudoir session like?

We’ll have a planning phone call ahead of time to talk about ideas for your session and how you want your portraits to look/fee, and we’ll talk through options for your flower (for example, what colors you’d love your flowers to be, etc). The week of your session I’ll take care of sourcing and preparing your flowers for your session, so they’ll be waiting for you at the studio. During your photoshoot we’ll spend about two hours taking pictures, with time for 3-5 looks/outfits.
