Artful, atmospheric boudoir photographs to celebrate a special birthday
One of my favorite reasons to do boudoir is to celebrate something meaningful or joyful in your life like a big transition or milestone birthday. With an upcoming birthday on the horizon, M reached out to book a boudoir session at my Minneapolis studio, and I was delighted to help her create a self-loving gift to mark this important chapter!
M had been dreaming about doing boudoir for a long time, and she had a strong sense of how she wanted her portraits to look and feel. She sourced a lot of her inspiration from my fine art boudoir photography style, and she was especially drawn to atmospheric, organic photos that had a “day-dream” quality. She also felt drawn to figure detail images and photos where she wasn’t looking at the camera, so I photographed her moving, stretching, and taking up space throughout the studio. Even though there was a lot of intentional posing and direction throughout her session, her pictures have a candid quality and communicate a powerful sense of storytelling.
boudoir wardrobe inspiration
For her boudoir wardrobe, M chose a mixture of lingerie, implied nude, and fine art nude portraits. She started the session wearing a white, high waisted bra and underwear set with clean, modern lines. Her second bralette and underwear set had sheer fabric and lacy scalloped edges giving this look a soft, romantic quality. For her third outfit, M wore a sheer black bra and underwear set that had polka dots and felt feminine and playful.
