Kate’s expressive, joyful boudoir photography & videography

When Kate and I met to plan her second boudoir session, she described wanting her pictures to feel bold, powerful, effortless, and full of joy. She especially loved the candid-feeling portraits from her first boudoir session with me, so she was excited to capture more emotive portraits that documented the authentic emotions from this new season of life. I find that many of my returning clients feel an extra sense of creative direction for how they want their second or third boudoir session to look and feel, and I love the synergy of inspiration that can unfold!

Kate’s boudoir wardrobe & types of boudoir photographs

Kate started the session wearing a pair of black, cheeky, high waisted lace bottoms along with a deep turquoise, cropped cami. For her second look, she wore a periwinkle bra and bottoms set with a lovely ribbed texture. For some portraits, she layered this outfit with a favorite sweatshirt. I love how these portraits feel extra cozy and effortless.

On the day of her session, I chose two spaces in my South Minneapolis studio to photograph Kate– each creating a calm, minimalist style of photography. We started with Kate standing in front of a creamy white wall in my studio and incorporated a standing mirror into some portraits. Gazing at her reflection in the mirror, these portraits feel introspective, calm, and self-loving. Next I set up my black wall backdrop, which created a powerful contrast to the first half of the session. Here I took a variety of types of boudoir photographs including a series of figure detail portraits to celebrate Kate’s various tattoos. I love how against this simple backdrop, Kate’s expressions, body language, and energy really shine - fulfilling her vision for emotive, candid-feeling portraits.

Kate’s boudoir videography

Back in 2020, Kate participated in my “In Their Own Skin” series and shared a piece of her story alongside her boudoir portraits. This year, she participated in my “Dear Body” series, writing a love letter to her body which I paired with video footage from her boudoir session. It was so inspiring to hear how Kate’s relationship with herself and her body has grown over the years, and what self-compassion means to her in this chapter of life.
