Tasha’s colorful, authentic, soulful personal branding session
This was a really cool photoshoot, and I’m so deeply excited about these pictures -- and the person in them. Everyone, meet Tasha!
Tasha is an amazing human, and I really loved getting to work with her. She reached out to me looking for personal branding photography as she prepares to launch her own brand! She does some really powerful work as a public speaker, creating a podcast, and talking with community groups about the intersection of mental health and the church in a holistic, healing-focused way. Tasha creates safe spaces for people to talk about the messier parts of life.
Tasha has been doing this work a little bit for a long time, and is now starting to do it more professionally through her brand called Mangled Spaces. She feels so confident and passionate about her work! She really loves talking with people in many formats -- public speaking, individual conversations, small groups -- and is really gifted at it.
When Tasha initially reached out to me, she shared that she hates having her picture taken. She told me about some negative experiences that she’s had and some negative feelings that she experiences related to being photographed. A photoshoot was not something that she was excited to do, but she knew that it was something she wanted to have done so that she could grow her brand and help people to connect to her when they visit her website.
I totally get this. When you have a brand or a business, showing the face and personality behind it for people to connect with is really important-- seeing that you’re a real person, knowing who you are to create trust. And sometimes, it can feel so hard to get comfortable sharing these things with the world when you’re launching a brand or website, and even more so when you’ve had past negative experiences around photography. It’s vulnerable on so many levels.
Tasha and I met up before her session to do a little bit of planning and to get to know each other ahead of time. It was so fun to show her the studio! She has such a deep soul and intentional heart for serving her community. She is so eloquent and comfortable diving into conversations about topics that aren’t always the easiest to talk about. She really wanted to create pictures that would feel grounded, polished, and competent, as well as some pictures that would feel colorful and full of life! She has a really joyful personality and we wanted her pictures to show this while still feeling elegant and trustworthy.
Tasha’s personal branding portrait session
Taking Tasha’s portraits was such a special experience; I think that she found meaning in taking the day to care for and celebrate herself. Her pictures are such a fun mix of things -- showing Tasha as her true joyful, soulful, trustworthy self, while also feeling quirky, colorful, and fun.
Tasha had a dear friend come along to her photoshoot so that we could get some candid photos of Tasha in conversation and in action! She also journaled for part of her session while I took candid photos. I love how we were able to capture photos that show her in her true element!
The mix of candid photos and more planned photos created a great contrast. There are some photos where she is more camera-aware and other photos that feel more spontaneous, but all of them feel so authentic to Tasha and her heart.
Tasha, you are such a thoughtful, brave, and stunning human! It was a joy to connect with you and create these portraits together. I am so excited to see where Mangled Spaces goes and how you change the world one conversation at a time. Thank you so much for trusting me with your personal branding portraits.
