“Why not now?” A’s dynamic, self-loving, and brave boudoir session

A had been thinking about doing a boudoir photoshoot for years but she kept waiting for the right moment and photographer. This spring, A finally decided to schedule a session with another boudoir photographer, but as the session approached, she realized that the studio didn’t feel like it best captured the style or vision she imagined for her session, so she decided to cancel. She reached out to me to see if I had any openings. While I tend to book sessions about 4-8 months out, I sometimes have last minute availability, and in a serendipitous turn of events I was able to book a session with A last-minute! I understand the importance, and challenge, of finding a boudoir photographer whose style aligns with your vision, so I’m proud of any client who knows and advocates for what they want. And I feel so grateful when I connect with a client like A whose vision matches my style.

In addition to waiting for the right photographer, A had also been waiting for the right life moment to do boudoir. During our planning session, A shared how a younger version of herself had been waiting for a moment where she looked and felt “enough,” yet she realized the unhelpfulness in that framework and began asking herself: why not now? Looking for the enoughness already in her life, A recognized how celebratory this season of life has felt, especially as she awaits her wedding later this year. She decided boudoir would be a beautiful way to document how she looks and feels right here, right now.

As A put it, “After seeing my photos, I feel so strong, confident, self-assured, and beautiful! I can't wait to do a boudoir shoot every 5 to 10 years to document my body. And I can't wait to look back at these photos decades from now.”

Planning the boudoir session

A brought so much thoughtfulness and authenticity into her photoshoot planning. She knew more than anything she wanted the portraits to feel like herself, laid-back and natural. But she also knew she wanted them to feel 3-dimensional, capturing the many facets of her personality as a proud gemini. She envisioned moments that felt easy-going and relaxed, moments that felt romantic and sensual, moments that showcased her confidence and strength, and moments that had an artful and creative energy. Overall, she wanted the portraits to celebrate herself and her body in this special moment of life before her wedding.

A’s boudoir wardrobe and portraits

A chose 5 different outfits/looks to match her vision. To capture an easy-going and everyday feeling, A started the session wearing a mix-matched emerald green bra and underwear set. A loved the artful lines on the bra that gave it a vintage feeling.

To celebrate her upcoming wedding, she wore a white babydoll slip with lace detailing and a sheer bodice that felt very bridal. She paired this outfit with one of her wedding veils, giving these portraits a romantic and sensual energy.

A also wore a favorite bodysuit of hers paired with her beloved Harley Davidson leather jacket. Standing against my accent wall, A looks so fierce and confident in these portraits.

Next A wore a pale blue and bra underwear set. While A typically is drawn to deeper jewel tones, she loved how special this set felt when she tried it on.

A wanted to end the session with a series of implied and fine art nude portraits incorporating her black wedding veil. The portraits of A standing naked in front of my silhouette panel, her black lace veil draped behind her back, capture the many facets of A’s dynamic personality: strength, softness, creativity, ease.
