B’s strong, sensual, and empowering boudoir session
B had been dreaming about doing a boudoir session for a long time, so it felt incredibly exciting to get to plan her much awaited session together. B was excited to take a day all for herself and create art that captured her beauty and strength. In her words, she felt excited to set aside time “to see myself as beautiful.”
Creating a vision for her boudoir session
Before her session, B took my online style quiz as a wardrobe planning tool. Her results put her in the “soft and romantic” category, which she said was right to an extent but didn’t quite capture her full story, as she also felt drawn to the bold and dramatic style. While she tends to live in a simple and easy-going look, B also loves to feel glamorous, and she wanted both sides of herself to shine through in her portraits. This to me is the true magic of the style quiz! We all contain multitudes. While some of us may have one aesthetic we feel drawn to, so many of us are like B and feel authentic and at home in multiple styles. Scrolling through all the style categories from the quiz results can help clarify the breadth and/or depth of your style.
B’s wardrobe choices and boudoir session portraits
Balancing her vision of soft romance with bold drama, B brought a wide spectrum of wardrobe choices to her photoshoot. B loves wearing the color red, so she started the session in a cherry-red slip with intricate lace detailing on the front. In this outfit, B exudes warmth, drama, and vibrancy.
B was so excited about her next outfit: she wore a neon-colored floral lace bra and underwear set. In some portraits she slipped a pair of denim shorts over her underwear, creating a very trendy and upbeat everyday look. While I often suggest clients avoid neon colors as they can photograph more pale than their true color, B is a great example of why there are exceptions to every style guideline. I love how the bright colors of her bra and soft glow of the silhouette panel create a warm, atmospheric feeling. B looks strong, confident, and at ease and she absolutely adored this look!!
B also loves wearing black, so she wore a favorite black bustier of hers with fishnet stockings. The warm lighting, straight lines, and soft detailing on B’s bustier create the incredible balance of soft romance and bold drama B envisioned.
B ended her session with several implied nude portraits wrapped up in a sheet. With warm lighting casting dramatic shadows, these portraits feel reflective and empowering.
