Celebrating spring with outdoor boudoir

S planned her second boudoir session with me last year, right on the cusp of spring. Little buds of grass, trees, and wildflowers were just starting to emerge, and it felt like that magical time of year in Minnesota when people are starting to bloom with the foliage. S has a strong connection to nature and loves spending time outdoors, so it felt fitting to document this meaningful season of life in a setting she loves. She rented an air bnb cabin nestled on a large stretch of private land, which made for a perfect location for outdoor boudoir!

S gave permission for only anonymous portraits to be shared from her session, but even this little window into her session conveys a strong sense of the calm, romantic energy her session held.

On the day of S’s outdoor boudoir session, it felt sunny and warm. We spent the session exploring some of the woods, hills, and shoreline of the property. S also wanted to incorporate flowers into her session, so I brought along an incredible bouquet of colorful, textured flowers.

Outdoor flower boudoir portraits in Minnesota

S started the session wearing a beautiful, silky teal slip, which she paired with a cozy cardigan for some pictures. I photographed her in a variety of poses - standing beneath the towering trees, holding onto the flowers, and laying peacefully on the ground. These images feel romantic, happy, and vibrant.

Next S wore a black bra and bottoms set paired with a favorite flannel. With the water behind her, these images feel calm and serene. S also wore a crop top with a flowy white blouse. She followed a grassy trail that led to the water’s edge, and I love the grounded, confidence and movement these portraits exude.

S finished her session with a series of implied nude portraits. Facing the sun, she wrapped up in a favorite blanket on the dock and then held the bouquet of flowers up to her chest. Her bare shoulders illuminated by the warm sun make these images feel extra magical.
