Harley’s cozy, powerful portraits full of self-love

Harley had never done a professional photoshoot before and was really excited about the process — she’s a reflective, intentional person and loved thinking about what aspects of herself she wanted to capture and celebrate in her portraits. She decided that wanted to capture multiple aspects of herself, but especially her joyful, cozy, happy self— she wanted photos that would feel like her, and not like a performance.

She’s also part of my Dear Body project, a series of sessions where I’ve invited clients to write a love letter to themselves to accompany their portraits.

Harley wanted portraits that would capture her soft, playful, cozy side - we aimed for a session that felt homey and comfortable and relaxed, lounging on the bed and giggling with her cozy cardigan. I also think there’s some really beautiful depth and complexity that comes through in her pictures — the ones of her basking on the windowseat feel a bit more confident. We ended the photshoot with a series of portraits of her wrapped in a simple white sheet and flowing fabric, and those have a glorious, effortless, self-loving energy that feels so special.
