K's flower boudoir photoshoot in South Minneapolis

I first photographed a boudoir session with K at my previous studio, and that session felt very glamorous and vintage-inspired. Fast forward about five years, K reached out to book another boudoir session at my photography studio in South Minneapolis! She was in a new season of life and recognized that she had grown and changed a lot between her first boudoir session and now. She felt excited to plan a more organic, natural feeling boudoir session that captured her authentic self right now. K really resonated with my boudoir session with M, and she wanted this photoshoot to celebrate her strength, confidence, and joy. She also wanted to include flowers, and I found an amazing bouquet of spring tulips sourced locally from Northerly Flora

While strength is a theme woven through K’s entire boudoir session, I also love the variety of moods and moments we captured. Her session featured lovely storytelling moments, like when she poured herself a cup of coffee in my studio kitchenette or when she arranged the colorful tulips into a beautiful bunch. K is also an incredible trapeze and aerial dancer, so toward the end of the session I cranked up the music and gave her space to dance and move around the studio. I love how much strength shines through in these portraits in an artful, organic way.

After her session, K affirmed the power of her boudoir experience with such sweet words: “I loved having time to celebrate me and my strength. I feel softer towards myself and renewed in remembering that I am beautiful in all phases.”

As a participant in my Dear Body project, K also wrote a love letter to her body that I incorporated into several of her portraits, which you can see below!
