Emma's Elegant, Confident Boudoir Session

When Emma first reached out to me, she shared that she had thought about doing a boudoir session for a while! Emma told me that she got married while in college, and had been interested in doing a boudoir session at the time of her wedding but hadn’t been able to make it happen. Now, as a self-described “newlywed Marine wife” traveling back and forth between Hawaii (where her husband is stationed) and Minnesota, the time finally felt right for her to do a boudoir session.

Emma shared with me that she wanted to do something that was lovely for herself to experience and to celebrate her confidence in her own body. She wanted to do something that would allow her to see herself in a different light, capturing her vulnerability and openness. She was also so excited to have that really empowering moment of sharing her pictures with her husband, especially in light of his upcoming deployment.

When discussing Emma’s ideas for her session, she shared that she wanted to feel “graceful, elegant, and feminine.” When we looked at photo ideas together, I noticed that she was drawn to photos with undertones of empowerment and confidence while also loving pictures that felt delicate and romantic. Emma also has a creative eye, and  a ballet background, and she loved the idea of incorporating elegant postures and body lines into her portraits!

Capturing Emma’s Graceful, Feminine Style

Emma shared with me that she loves her hair and knew that she wanted it to have a tumbling, easy texture in her pictures. Hayley (from Hayley Sachs Artistry) created some lightly flowing, relaxed curls for her that intertwined beautifully with Emma’s graceful and feminine style.

Emma brought such a wonderful range of romantic, feminine outfits for her session! One of my favorite outfits that Emma brought along was a deep navy bra that she paired with a blue button-down shirt. I always love when a client brings a shirt or cardigan that can be left open in front or draped gently off of the shoulders. This look feels slightly undressed and casual, while also gently emanating confidence.

Emma also had a really fun bra and high-waisted underwear set that had jewel-toned embroidered flowers on them, which created an artsy, romantic vibe. Her final outfit during our session was a strappy bra and cheeky underwear set in a lovely goldenrod lace, which contrasted beautifully with the brickwork in the background of her portraits. These outfits really embodied Emma’s elegant, feminine style and allowed her confidence to shine!
