In Their Own Skin: Abigail
Welcome to the “In Their Own Skin” series.
One of the biggest honors of my job as a boudoir photographer is hearing the stories clients share with me. While these stories are not mine to share on a public platform, I hold them close in my heart. They bring me inspiration, strength, and light in a way that only true humanity and vulnerability can.
I created the “In Their Own Skin” series to share some of these stories with you. The “In Their Own Skin” participants graciously consented to share their stories (told in their own words) alongside their boudoir pictures. My sincere hope is that these stories and pictures will bring you moments of strength, uplift your soul, and encourage you to keep moving forward, especially as we navigate these challenging times.
I am delighted to introduce you to Abigail, the next participant whose story and pictures I’ll be sharing with you as part of the “In Their Own Skin” series. Abigail’s story is about the positivity she is learning to embrace towards herself and her body, as well as where she finds inspiration for the uplifting, celebratory energy she is cultivating for herself! Here are her words.
“I feel my joy and happiness.”
“My name is Abigail, and I’m 22 years old. I’m a medical assistant and I nanny in my free time.
“In the last few years, ever since I got out of college, I haven’t looked at myself the best. I nitpick myself a lot, just in everyday life -- like, “oh no, that’s not good.” But when I think about my life, I want to have more positivity about myself and be able to see myself in a different way.
“Something I love about myself is that I have a big passion for kids and working. When I’m around kids, I feel my joy and my happiness. It keeps my viewpoint away from negativity that I have about parts of my body. Just being around kids and seeing them light up to every little thing.
“I’ve noticed that when I babysit on the weekends, I focus on all the happiness in this life, and forget about all the negativity.”
“I wanted to experience that myself.”
“I was really interested in being part of this boudoir [In Their Own Skin] project because I love how people are out there, just willing to do boudoir shoots. I have heard stories that when they do, it impacts them so much, and I just wanted to experience that myself.”
Abigail, I am so proud to have you as a participant in this project! Thank you for sharing the joy you find in working with kids and the positivity you are learning to have about your body with us. You brought such a kind, celebratory energy to the studio. I’m really grateful that we met, and I'm so glad that you love your pictures as much as I do!
