Sarah’s Soft, Self-loving Maternity Boudoir Portraits
Sarah connected with me at a really magical moment in her life: she was pregnant, and feeling powerful and really comfortable in her own skin. She wanted to plan a maternity boudoir session to celebrate herself and create a time capsule of this chapter in her life.
She and I talked a lot about how this season of pregnancy was a special time for her in many ways. Sara was full of anticipation as she partnered with her husband to prepare for the changes to her family, she wanted to celebrate her body and the curves of being 34 weeks pregnant, and she also really cherished the opportunity to celebrate her individuality as she experiences this new journey. She used the term “lifelong keepsake,” and creating something she would love and enjoy forever from her session day was such an honor.
Sarah was really drawn to a style that would feel soft and romantic, as well as more chill and candid. She loves lace and soft textures, and that comes through in the mix of outfits in warm and cool tones she chose to bring to the studio.
She had a mauve colored sweater that was flowy and organic feeling, a white bodysuit with lace, a really rich berry-colored lace nightie, a cozy sweatshirt she paired with floral bottoms (channelling her comfy, relaxed vibe!), a turquoise robe from Flirt Boutique with lace panels on the shoulders, and one of her husband’s shirts that she paired with a white bra top and black bottoms.
Hayley styled Sarah’s hair in big, soft curls that were romantic feeling and natural, warm makeup in warm neutral tones, with a copper-colored eyeshadow that played-up her eyes. Hayley helped Sarah to feel so comfortable and celebrated and delivered the soft and romantic look she was going for.
Sarah was having a lot of fun as she took in the experience of her session day and was so excited for her photoshoot - as was her husband. There was one point toward the beginning of her session when Sarah’s husband texted her - he was so happy she was doing something special for herself, encouraging her to celebrate her body and soul and have a fun day. This sweet, empowering support from her partner totally made me tear up.
Sarah, thank you so much for choosing to document this time in your life with a session. I’m so happy that we got to work together - your bubbly personality and energy were lovely to be around, and truly come through in these incredible portraits. Congratulations on the birth of your sweet baby Vincent - I am so happy you’ll have these portraits to treasure as a lifelong keepsake.
