Jordan’s Soft, Happy Bridal Boudoir Portraits

Jordan and I met at an event I photographed last year, and she came across my boudoir work before her spring wedding. I remember her initial email so clearly - it was the best! She told me she was getting married and didn’t know if there would be another time in her life when she would feel she had a great excuse to make a boudoir session happen. The idea of boudoir made her a little uncomfortable, but she wanted to put herself out there and her upcoming wedding was just the impetus she needed.

On the morning of her session it made my photographer heart so happy to hear Jordan talk with my hair and makeup stylist, Hayley, about how her boudoir session was theoretically inspired by her wedding, yet becoming more and more a gift for herself to enjoy forever - with the awesome bonus of getting to share the portraits (ideas for boudoir as a gift on the blog).

Jordan’s wardrobe feels very cohesive and natural with a mix of whites, blacks, and pale pinks. There’s also a notable variety of textures. She brought a silk nightie in a pale pink with lace-detailing, a simple black t-shirt bra and cotton underwear set she paired with a chunky white sweater with black stripes, a white bralette set with a romantic lace trim along the bust line, a black lingerie set with a dramatic, strappy bra, and finally the simplicity of wrapping up in one of my studio sheets.

Jordan’s beautiful mix of outfits helped bring her vision of natural and joyful portraits to life. I love looking at all of her final pictures together because everything feels so unified in terms of its color palette. It is neutral city, which is my happy place, and her collection of portraits is a lovely example of a fairly monochromatic color palette that still has a lot of variety, movement, texture, and story within it.

Hayley did Jordan’s hair/makeup styling - she gave her hair soft, relaxed waves with a little texture that catches the light so magically in many of her portraits. Jordan loved the way her hair looked in her pictures and was also drawn to many of the black and white portraits from her session because they showed off the contrast of her hair, her dark eyes, and her freckles. Jordan’s collection of portraits channels all of the calm and romantic vibes and the album she chose will be such a happy heirloom piece for her to treasure.

Jordan, thank you for using this exciting time in life as an opportunity to celebrate yourself in such a loving, happy way. I’m still swooning over your thoughtfully curated wardrobe of textured neutrals! Thanks so much for joining me in the studio - you are amazing, inside and out.
