Jen’s Glamorous, Happy Boudoir Portraits
I really enjoy working with returning clients: witnessing their personal growth and sharing in their seasons of life as they unfold. I’ve talked with so many of my boudoir clients about how much grow and change in just a year or two, and I love seeing the new energy and intentions they bring to subsequent boudoir sessions.
Jen’s first session happened at a really particular time in her life that was tied to her wedding - those portraits had a delicate and feminine vibe that was so right for her at the time. She reached out to me a little more than a year later, and in planning this boudoir session she had a different vibe and new ideas that would reflect her current energy: she wanted these to feel glam and cozy.
There were also some soft and relaxed vibes that Jen loved from her first session and wanted to carry through into these portraits. So she brought a super lovely white sweater that she paired with mustard-colored lace bottoms, and a timeless black lingerie set she layered with a soft grey sweater. A red lingerie set with bit of gold detail in it felt really elegant, soft, and brought a warm pop of color.
She cultivated glamour in a shiny, metallic textured bodysuit with a sheer plunging frontline and a super dramatic open back. The mix of wardrobe pieces she chose create such a cohesive story that exuberates confidence and happiness in her portraits.
Kelsey from The Hair Badassery styled Jen’s hair in soft, textured waves and gave her a bold red lip - she’s been wearing darker lip colors in her day to day life so it represented her current style beautifully.
When people mention that they’re looking for a bold lip color at their session, I often tell them that it’s okay to bring a favorite from home if they have something specific in mind, especially if they have a personal iconic or signature color. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing a piece of makeup from home. The artists I work with are also really talented and can look at the color palette of a boudoir wardrobe and the light in my studio to help choose the perfect lip color to pair with unique skin tones and hair colors.
Jen went with a slightly more dramatic eye this time in the studio that felt really warm and natural with full lashes. The soft, neutral bronzy smokey eye effect worked so well with Jen’s wardrobe color palette. I love how all the warm colors came together in this session, and how it really emphasized the cozy, glam, happy vibe that she envisioned for these portraits.
Jen, thank you for choosing to document this season of your life with another boudoir session. Connecting and making art with you is an honor and so much fun, and I love seeing how warm and confident and full of life these portraits feel for you!! Thank you for everything :)
