A’s grounded, strong, and sunlight-filled outdoor boudoir portraits

One of my favorite parts of outdoor boudoir is how it takes me and my clients to new, incredible outdoor locations. For this session, I rented a gorgeous A-frame cabin in the lakes region of northern Minnesota. Renting a cabin (especially one with a large private property) can be a great option for outdoor boudoir because it provides clients with a private photoshoot location, indoor changing spaces, a restroom, and a lovely indoor space to use as a rain backup if weather doesn't cooperate. This cabin was situated on a beautiful plot of land surrounded by several acres of woods with winding paths, a peaceful river, and big towering trees. 

A’s outfit inspiration & outdoor boudoir portraits 

The vision for A’s session – organic, connected to nature, full of confident, feminine, and self-loving energy – shaped her outfit choices. When A arrived, we laid out a bunch of wardrobe options on a big table inside the cabin, and I helped her choose three final outfits.

A began the session wearing an olive green cotton bralette and high waisted bottoms, which felt simple, natural, and tied in well with the forest setting. Next she wore a sheer black romper/teddy. The wide neck line highlighted her shoulders, and the soft lace detail gave this look a feminine, romantic feeling as the sunlight danced across the mesh fabric. A ended the session wearing a fitted caramel-colored bodysuit with straight, delicate straps that exuded a strong and elegant feeling. By sticking with earth tones colors but playing with different fabrics and outfit styles, A’s portraits captured the simplicity and versatility of nature.

We began the photoshoot walking along a forest path that opened up into this gorgeous clearing enclosed by trees. These portraits feel very grounded, happy, and full of nature. 

Next we followed the forest path to a clearing beside the river. Basking in the warm sunlight and surrounded by lush, green grass, A emanates calm, empowering confidence. 

Some of my favorite portraits from the day capture A in our final location for the photoshoot, standing amongst a field of ferns and tall trees. The sun was just beginning to stretch into its golden hour glow, casting such soft, warm lighting on A’s face. Her smiles here feel contagious and bursting with self-love!
