Celebrating a season of growth with a boudoir session
When SJ booked her boudoir session, she did so wanting to do something empowering for herself. She had been through a huge amount of growth in the past decade of her life, and she wanted to do something to celebrate the self-confidence and self-worth she had cultivated.
SJ is a super intentional person, and in the months before her session she created a beautiful mood board as a google doc, featuring examples of my work that spoke to her. While it is absolutely not necessary, I find a lot of my clients enjoy collecting and sharing some inspiration images before their session. SJ also came up with a list of core grounding words to describe how she wanted her portraits to look and feel: happy, strong, sexy, and proud.
When exploring what types of boudoir pictures SJ resonates with most, she felt drawn to a mix of classic boudoir portraits that showed her face and her personality as well as artistic figure details capturing the shape and lines of her body.
boudoir outfit ideas + SJ’s portraits at my minneapolis boudoir studio
SJ started the session in my studio kitchen, wearing a magenta bra and underwear set with geometric lace paired with a silky robe. These pictures feel fun, powerful, and full of personality.
To contrast that more storytelling series, next I photographed SJ in front of the clean lime wash wall in my studio. Wearing a bodysuit with lace detailing, these portraits feel artistic and confident, capturing the lines of her body as art.
For her third look, SJ transitioned into an outfit that felt casual and comfy. She wore a long sleeve ribbed t-shirt paired with high waisted blue underwear. These portraits have cozy, weekend morning energy. After that look, SJ wore a red lace bra and underwear set that felt glamorous and fancy. I photographed her on my studio bed, where the warm color tones of the brick wall complemented her outfit beautifully.
For her final look, SJ stood in front of my silhouette panel for a series of fine art nude portraits. I love how the figure detail images turned out, documenting the natural warmth and shadows of her body lines. By the end of her session, I felt so proud of how well SJ’s session captured her vision of creating happy, strong, sexy, and proud feeling portraits!
