Anne's romantic outdoor boudoir session in Grand Marais

When Anne and I started planning her boudoir session, she shared a really beautiful intention for her photoshoot experience. We were talking about the feeling and energy she wanted her portraits to have, and she said that she wanted to use her boudoir session to embrace her soft and romantic side. “I already know that I’m strong”, she shared with me, explaining that she had spent part of her career as a nature guide had a solid sense for both her inner strength and physical strength, “but I don’t often give myself the chance to see my sensual, soft, romantic side… and I want to see it.”

I loved Anne’s intention because it simultaneously embraced her strength, a quality she already knows and is proud of, and also set forth a desire to see something in herself that she hoped and knew was there, but that she doesn’t easily see in herself.

With that in mind, we planned her boudoir session to take place outdoors, in a setting that felt authentic and true to herself, and chose a location, posing, outfits, and energy to celebrate her holistic self, with a focus on softer, romantic, self-loving postures and energy.

We planned to do her session in Grand Marais and found two incredible locations. We spent the first part of her session on Paradise Beach, which is right on Lake Superior - it was a gorgeous spot for outdoor boudoir. The beach was super large and private, and had gorgeous soft early evening light. Anne wore a gray t-shirt and lace underwear for a cozy look to start the session, and then wore a Wild Isles swimsuit (which felt right at home on the beach!), and also opted for some implied and fine art nude portraits incorporating a flowing piece of sheer pale pink linen. The flowing fabric was a beautiful way to bring in a romantic, feminine texture!

For the final portfion of her session, Anne and I had found a gorgeous airbnb that had a private front yard overlooking the lake - it had a big stretch of grass and field and felt super lush and peaceful. I love these pictures from the end of her session with her lying down on the grass - they feel really grounded and romantic.
