M’s bold and authentic boudoir videography session
M is such a lovely human. I first photographed her several years ago for her first boudoir session, and then after reconnecting at my studio celebration party last fall, we started planning another boudoir session!
In our initial planning conversation, M described wanting her portraits to feel candid and effortless, incorporating a cozy pj set to capture storytelling, everyday energy. But when M arrived at my Minneapolis studio for her photoshoot, her vision had evolved - which is more than okay, and actually pretty common! A lot of my clients, and especially my returning clients, change their mind about what types of photographs they want to include in their session or what style/mood they want their portraits to convey as their session approaches, reflective of emergent emotions or themes in their life they want to capture.
On the day of her session, M showed up with a favorite graphic t-shirt of hers and a bright red bra, which she paired with high-waisted black bottoms and a silky black button up. She wanted her portraits to feel sexy, dramatic, bold, and authentic.
The first half of M’s session had a more classic boudoir photography feel. Wearing the red bra outfit in front of my gray lime wash wall, M looks confident, happy, and effortless.
For the second portion of the session, M felt very drawn to my studio kitchenette. M loves to cook and drink coffee, so we did a series of lifestyle, candid-feeling photographs of her making a cup of coffee. M also sat on the countertop for a series of pictures, which radiate strength and empowerment.
M’s heartfelt letter to herself
M was also one of the participants in the “Dear Body” boudoir videography project I started last year. She wrote such a moving letter to herself that honestly gives me goosebumps. You can watch the video to see real footage from M’s boudoir session and listen to hear her read her beautiful letter aloud. Then keep scrolling to see the inspiring portraits from M’s session!
“You are grounded, strong, resilient, sincere, warm, thoughtful, sensible, and smart. You are fully yourself all the time, and you give others the space to feel at ease in who they are to the fullest.
You bask in small moments of comfort and ease in the day to day, not rushing through quiet peaceful moments. You only do things that you want to do, and because of your intentionality you have created exactly the kind of life you want to be living. You are most at home with yourself and enjoy your own company, and I admire you.
In this life I hope that you are held and seen and loved for who you are. I hope that you continue to find immense joy, peace, and comfort all of your days. You are a treasure, and the world is lucky to have you in it.”
