Artemis’s creative, joyful, dramatic boudoir portraits

From the first time Artemis and I talked about doing a boudoir session together, I was SO excited!! Artemis is a performer, a dancer, a massage therapist, and just such an overall creative person. They brought a lot of intention and inspiration to their session, and they also had a lot of trust in my creative process, which was super fun for me. They really opened themself up to whatever the day would bring and had the best energy!

Artemis’s boudoir session inspiration

Artemis said from the beginning that they were holding the question, “How do I want to feel in my body on my boudoir session day?” They brought a whole pile of wardrobe options to the studio, and then once they were in the studio they were able to decide what felt most authentic to them. It was such a present, genuine way of choosing boudoir outfits, and it felt really cool to witness!

When we were talking about their overall style, Artemis talked about having some parts of themself that feel mysterious, while other parts feel bright and delighting. There’s depth and mystery, and also brightness and joy. I think you really see this come across in their portraits – the colors and fabrics Artemis chose to wear in the start of the session feel light and cheerful, and the colors and fabrics progress to a richer, more sensual mood as the session continues. During the middle of the session (which was both Artemis’s and my favorite part!), they wore this rich golden scarf that felt like the perfect interplay between light and dark. It was a really cool transition piece and such a unique garment!

Artemis also brought feelings of drama AND of soft, romantic moments to their session. They talked about wanting to feel strong and present in their body. They also love figure details and portraits that showcase anatomy in their body. They’re in a season of life where they’re feeling really proud of the work they’re doing, the path they’re on, and the art they’re creating in life.

After their session, Artemis was reflecting on their pictures and wrote in their feedback form, “I feel very hot and queer and transformative.” And this ABSOLUTELY made my day!!!

You can read a few more of their words at the very bottom of this blog post – but first, here are Artemis’s portraits!
