K’s Natural, Comfortable Boudoir Portraits
On the day of “K’s” session it was raining and NE Minneapolis was experiencing a quiet spring thunderstorm. She loves the rain, so it felt perfectly atmospheric. K’s intention for the session was to create portraits first and foremost for herself to document her life at this moment in time. She wanted pictures that would feel soft, natural, comfortable, and true to her.
K originally planned to do a session before her wedding, but later on moved herher session a few months afterward. She made this choice partly because things before a wedding can be so busy and full and also because she wanted to still feel valuable and worth photographing while she was no longer a bride - which I really love the sentiment of.
Amanda from SM Hair + Makeup did K’s styling. Her hair is fine and K said it often has a hard time holding a curl, but Amanda made K’s desire for textured waves a reality by using some product to help the curls hold. K also wanted some photos with her hair up, so Amanda left a couple clear elastic hair ties and bobby pins and showed her how to style it for an elegant off-the-shoulder look. K wanted her makeup to feel simple and natural and Amanda’s interpretation had her looking so polished and bright.
K started her session by wearing some cozy, textured sweater tops paired with simple bottoms. She also brought along a white button-down shirt and white lace bottoms, a blue Calvin Klein set that added a fun pop of color, and a beautiful ivory-colored nightie that had some very feminine and delicate straps. It was a really lovely mix of outfits, and I especially like the photo of her in the button-down, laying on her back - there is so much light streaming in from behind her and she looks so happy!
K, you are so thoughtful and kind! I really enjoyed talking with you, spending the day with you, and photographing you on this cozy rainy day. Thank you so much for joining me in the studio!
