4 Big Fears About Boudoir Photos (and Why You Don't Need to Worry)

Often, when I first speak to women about doing a boudoir session, they share big fears with me about how the session will unfold.

I get it, being in front of a camera can feel vulnerable. I think it’s completely natural to feel a little nervous and it’s a big part of my job to make sure you’re feeling comfortable before we take a single photos.

Here are the top four concerns that women share with me before their boudoir sessions, and how I make it my purpose to support them through each one.

4 Fears About Boudoir Photos

What do I do with my hands? Or my face? Or my body?

Many of my boudoir clients are concerned that they won’t be able to create flattering poses. Or they’ll end up looking stiff, or awkward. Please don’t worry. Posing is my job, I’ll gently coach you into flattering and natural poses so that you both look and feel great. If you’re worried about your hands, I might suggest holding something, like a flower or a mug of tea, while you get comfy in the session.

I don’t want to look too styled, I still want to look like myself.

You don’t need to look like a glamazon or a pin-up girl to feel beautiful. I embrace ‘simple sexy’ boudoir photos, where we highlight you, your body and your personality.

What do I wear?

One of the great things about taking so many photos is that I know exactly what fabrics and wardrobe pieces photograph well. I love to be a guide to my boudoir clients on their wardrobe choices. We’ll make sure to talk about what you love about your body and what styles and types of outfit choices will highlight those features. And, a great side benefit to photographing boudoir sessions, I have a long list of my favorite local and online resources for pretty lingerie.

I hate my (insert body part here).

I think we all feel a little self conscious in front of a camera, I know I do. My sessions are designed to make sure you feel relaxed, confident and comfortable before we take a single photo. You’ll have your hair and makeup done in my cozy private studio. We’ll sip some tea, or champagne and chat. Then we’ll start taking photos in a relaxed non-rushed way. My natural poses help you feel confident in your body, and are designed to help you feel beautiful in your own skin. It’s natural to feel a bit nervous, but I’ve got you.

Those are the fears I most commonly hear from boudoir clients and it’s part of my mission as a photographer to support you, so that any anxiety about your session melts away.

Boudoir can be such an empowering experience for women to fall in love with themselves in a new way, it’s an experience I hope to share with you!
